Gear

I love gadgets, what can I say I am geek. It is easy to waste a ton of money on gadgets that you aren't going to use. However, spend the money correctly and they can really pay off in increased productivity. These are the gadgets that I use everyday for work and fun.

Gadgets

Macbook Pro

I used to be anti-Apple products, with their cult like status and lack of customisation. However, after cursing at Windows laptops for many years I decided to take the plunge and go with a Macbook Pro.

For developers they are fantastic, super fast and you get the linux experience without the headaches.

I have the 13 inch model as I like the portability, it is fantastic and I wouldn't be without it.

Dell 27-inch Ultra HD 4K Monitor

I knew when I set up my new office I wanted to have dual monitors. If you do any programming then you should definitely consider 4K monitors. You can just see so many more lines of code.

I have these hooked up to an AmazonBasics Dual monitor arm and they look amazing.

Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Express Docking Station

For my dual monitor set up I originally had multiple cables plugged in. I had wires everywhere! I knew I needed dock but I couldn't find one that would allow Dual 4K monitors on a Macbook Pro.

I finally found this one made by Belkin and it works flawlessly. It manages to power my two 4K monitors no problem. It also works if you have the laptop open but the second monitor looses the 4K resolution.

Keychron K1 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard (Version 4)

I recently switched from an Apple style keyboard to this Keychron model. This is my first mechanical keyboard and I wanted one that was low profile so it wasn't such a shock moving to the clicky keys. I really like this keyboard and the lights make it fun to type on.

Logitech MX Master 2S Wireless Mouse

I have quite large hands and find a lot of mice uncomfortable to use for long periods of time. If you search for mice for big hands you will see the MX Master 2S mentioned a lot.

The MX Master 2S was perfect for my large hands and even comes with Logitech Flow, which lets you move the mouse between different devices. I love the scroll wheel which adapts to your scrolling speed.

Amazon Echo Dot (4th Gen)

Nothing says smart home like being able to control everything with your voice. For those with privacy concerns there is a mute button on top. I mostly use my Alexa for playing music, turning on lights, checking the weather and turning on the heating.

Blue Yeti X Professional Condenser Microphone

With the move to work from home in 2020 I needed to get a new microphone for my desk. This was mostly so I could have my laptop closed to give me a bit more desk space. I opted for a decent microphone that I could use for podcasting and YouTube videos in the future as well as for recording music. The Blue Yeti X has been super clear and easy to set up.

Anker Wireless Charger PowerWave Pad

I use my phone a lot throughout the day and wanted a quick and easy way to charge it during the day. I opted for the Anker Wireless Charger Pad which works really well with my iPhone XR.

Govee LED Strip Lights 5m

After seeing other people on Instagram with cool desk lights I wanted some too. These ones are really cool as you can set the colours from your phone and it works with Alexa too.

Miscellaneous

Given I spend 8 hours a day in my home office I wanted it to be a fun place to work. As such I have a few items which are there just to put a smile on my face.

Playmobil Back to the Future DeLorean

I loved Back to the Future growing up and it always brings back fond memories of my childhood. When Playmobil bought out this Delorean I just had to get it. It is actually quite a detailed model. Even the flux capcitor lights up when you click the button on the bottom.

LEGO Brickheadz Marvel Iron Man

This was a present from my daughters for one of my birthdays. Lego have stopped making these now which unfortunately means, if you want one you have to pay an eyewatering price for one.

I can see now why people buy lego kits as an investment.

Superman Coasters

Another present, this time from my sister. These vintage style Superman comic book coasters always put a smile on my face. I must admit, I am more of a Marvel fan these days.

Maybe I should get one of these.
