Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Alex and I am 30 plus change software developer and entrepreneur based in the south-east of England.
I am not going to give you my life history as it is probably typical of a lot of software developers you know, but here is a brief overview anyway.
After graduating from the University of Bath with a Masters in Physics I started off a career in software development at a company in Bath. Even though I had been developing websites and apps since I was 10, it was great to get some formal training.
After 5 years there, I moved back to the south-east of England to be closer to the rest of my family and got a job at a finance startup in London.
The company I worked for in London was great, I got to work on cutting-edge tech with great people and soon progressed to Tech Lead. However, living outside of London meant travelling for up to 4 hours a day, this on top of an already long 8 – 10 hour day. If I was unattached, I wouldn’t have minded too much. However, the long hours meant that I didn’t get to see my 2 kids at all until the weekend as they would often still be in bed when I got up and would be asleep when I get home.
After a personal tragedy in my family, it was time to re-evaluate what I wanted in life. I realised even though I liked my job, I loved my wife and children more and it wasn’t worth the sacrifice. So in December 2017, I left my cushy FinTech job and decided to follow the path less travelled and start a life as an entrepreneur.
I originally started this blog back when I was a software engineer in Bath. The problem was I never had the time to update it so it got a bit neglected. One of my projects in my new career is to try and make a success of this blog. Hopefully, it will serve as a journal of my lessons learned and will be useful for other budding entrepreneurs.
I have over 8 years worth of experience as a professional software developer and more than 20 years of experience in building websites and applications. Interested in working together? You can contact me using the form below:
